Fixturing – R&R CMM & Vision Fixtures

Explore R&R modular metrology fixtures for repeatable part holding on CMMs, vision systems and other inspection equipment.

Modular Fixturing for Repeatable Inspection

R&R modular fixtures provide flexible part holding for coordinate measuring machines, vision systems and other metrology equipment. Base plates and reusable locating, supporting and clamping components can be configured around different part sizes and shapes without building a dedicated fixture for every inspection.

A stable setup helps maintain part position while leaving critical inspection features accessible to a touch probe, camera or optical sensor. Documented fixture positions can also make recurring inspections easier to reproduce across operators, shifts and future production runs. For vision systems, fixture elements should also avoid blocking illumination or the camera’s line of sight.

Planning a Metrology Fixture

The fixture should support the workpiece without distorting it or blocking the features that must be measured. Machine type, base-plate dimensions, part material, weight, geometry, sensor access and expected inspection volume all affect the component selection.

  • Modular components can be rearranged for prototypes and changing part families.
  • Clear probe and optical access reduces avoidable measurement obstruction.
  • Repeatable locating points support consistent setup documentation.
  • Multiple parts may be arranged when the machine envelope and inspection routine allow it.
  • Reusable components can reduce dependence on temporary or dedicated workholding methods.
