Mitutoyo FORMTRACER Avant Series

Mitutoyo

Mitutoyo FORMTRACER Avant is a configurable contour and surface roughness measuring system designed for precise profile and surface-finish inspection. Standard, high-column and large-base configurations can be equipped for contour measurement, roughness measurement or both, helping manufacturers match the system to their parts, throughput requirements and inspection workflows.

The Mitutoyo FORMTRACER Avant Series combines contour measurement and surface roughness testing within a configurable platform for inspection laboratories and production environments. A base system can be equipped for contour measurement, roughness measurement or both, giving manufacturers a practical path from a dedicated instrument to a more versatile form-measurement system as requirements change.

Contour and Surface Roughness Measurement in One Platform

FORMTRACER Avant supports contour detectors for evaluating profiles, radii, angles and other geometric features, along with roughness detector holders for analyzing surface texture. The roughness system supports measurements aligned with JIS, ISO, ANSI and VDA standards. Available detector options include the general-purpose C-3200 and high-accuracy C-4500 contour detectors, plus multiple roughness detector holders for standard, crank and upward or downward measurement arrangements.

Faster Setup and Measurement Workflows

High movement speeds help reduce non-measuring time, with maximum X-axis movement of 80 mm/s and maximum Z2-axis movement of 30 mm/s. The drive unit can incline through a range of plus or minus 45 degrees to reach angled features, while the minimum positioning distance of 0.05 mm supports measurements near edges and on narrow areas. Cable routing inside the unit, tool-free detector replacement and automatic detector recognition further streamline setup.

Configurations for Different Parts and Applications

The series includes standard, high-column and large-base or long-column configurations, with 100 mm and 200 mm drive-unit options available across the lineup. Optional Y-axis and rotary tables, automatic leveling equipment, chucks and fixturing can support multi-point measurement, cylindrical workpieces and more automated routines. FA Metrology can help determine which surface and contour measurement configuration fits the part geometry, measurement range and inspection workflow.
